– We get an opening video package, voiced over by Stephanie McMahon, showing ladies like Moolah, Mae Young, Lita, Trish, Beth Phoenix, the Bellas, Bayley, Sasha Banks, and more; putting over the history of WWE women’s wrestling.

– Jim Ross & Lita welcome us to the show.

– We get a great video package for Princesa Sugehit vs. Kay Lee Ray, which should be no surprise, WWE always thrives at video package like this.

Mae Young Classic – 1st Round Match
Princesa Sugehit vs. Kay Lee Ray
Princesa Sugehit is a Mexican luchadora from CMLL, age 37, and has been working since 1996 and a veteran of over 680 matches. Kay Lee Ray, age 25, is from Glasgow, Scotland and started working back in 2009. Many know her for her work in ICW, SHIMMER, and STARDOM. They shake hands and here we go. The crowd loves Ray right away, she attacks with chops but Sugehit picks up the pace, tripping up Ray and covering for 2. Sugehit looks for a pinning combo, ray cuts her off with a modified gory special, witch turned into a code red for a near fall. She misses the senton atomico, leading to a near fall for Ray, who then takes control. Sugehit had enough of that, lays in chops but Ray hits a short flatliner into a koji clutch. Sugehit escapes, lays in chops and kicks, and then a head scissors. The atomic drop leads to her rolling Ray around and into a roll up for 2. Sugehit follows with kicks, but Ray hits the Gory bomb for a near fall. Ray up top now, but misses the senton, and Sugehit locks in her arm bar finish and Ray has to tap.

– We get a video package for Serena Deeb vs. Vanessa Borne.

Mae Young Classic – 1st Round Match
Serena Deeb vs. Vanessa Borne
Vanessa Borne, age 28, is was previously a broadcaster for Fox Sports Arizona, as well as a dancer for the Phoenix Suns and a cheerleader for the Arizona Cardinals. She is currently under a WWE developmental deal, and has only worked 25 matches, all under the WWE umbrella. Serena Deeb, age 31, was an OVW & SHIMMER regular before signing with WWE in 2009. She was released from her WWE contract, reportedly for not “living out” her straight edge persona in public. She’s the redemption story, and they have even discussed her past issues with alcohol. Deeb was a great 80s style, fiery babyface much of the time in SHIMMER, and was really good at it. Deeb looks to be in great shape. They lock up and work to the mat. Borne appears to have a lot of confidence, but Deeb controls with arm drags and is then sent to the corner. Borne head butts her and then takes control, laying the boots to Deeb. Forearms follow, and then another head butt connects for 2. Borne grounds things with a chinlock, but Deeb fights to her feet and hits a belly to back suplex. Deeb fires up with strikes, hits a slam and then neck breaker for 2. Deeb follows with a gut buster, but misses the spear and hits the buckles. Borne hits a neck breaker, but Deeb kicks out at 2. Borne follows with mounted punches, and then the Samoan drop for 2. Borne is now frustrated, allowing Deeb to battle back and hit the spear for the finish.

– We get a video package for Shayna Baszler vs. Zeda.

– Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke are in attendance to support Baszler.

Shayna Baszler vs. Zeda
Zeda is a WWE developmental talent, with a background in MMA, amateur wrestling, wrestling, singing, acting and modeling. Shayna Baszler, age 37, is a former MMA fighter (15-11), and considered a pioneer of the early women’s MMA scene. Baszler may only have 73 matches under her belt, but has received comparisons to Matt Riddle, due to how fast she’s picked up professional wrestling. No handshake from Baszler, Zeda looks for a knee bar early, but Baszler counters and they grapple early. Baszler slaps her around a bit, looks for an arm bar, but Zeda counters out. Baszler easily counters a hanging arm bar by shoving Zeda to the mat with ease. Baszler works strikes, misses a knee strike allowing Zeda to fight back and hit a monkey flip. Zeda now works a hanging guillotine, but Baszler counters into a falcon arrow into the rear naked choke for the win.
Shayna Baszler defeated Zeda @ 2:10 via submission

- We get a video package for Abbey Laith vs. Jazzy Gabert.

Abbey Laith vs. Jazzy Gabert
Abbey Laith, better known as Kimber Lee, is 27 years old and has been working since 2011. She is under a WWE developmental deal and is a veteran of 390 matches. Jazzy Gabert, better known as Alpha Female, is 35 and has been working since 2001. She is a veteran of 252 matches, and has also competed in MMA. Laith attacks right away, screaming as she tries to take the fight to the bigger Gabert. Gabert cuts her off, tossing her around the ring with ease. Laith picks up the pace, looking for arm drags, but Gabert just powers out and again takes control, grounding her and then going to her submission game. Every time Laith tries to escape, Gabert continues with the submission game. Gabert fires up with rapid-fire strikes, and then goes back to a neck crank. Gabert then lays in huge forearms, Laith tries to go to the air, but was caught and slammed with ease. The cocky pin only gets 1 for Gabert. Laith manages to cut off a charge and works an octopus in the ropes. Laith fires up with kicks and finally takes Gabert to her knees. She finally takes her down, and covers for 2. Laith heard up top, but Gabert cuts her off. Laith again fires back with kicks and a dropkick. Laith again heads up top, hits the senton but Gabert kicks out at 2. Gabert kills her with a lariat, lays in ground and pound and then looks to finish things but Laith counters out and rolls into the cradle for the win.

Mercedes Martinez vs. Xia Li
Xia Li is a WWE developmental talent from China. She has trained in martial arts and is the co-founder of her own fitness studio; she has multiple first-place finishes in various martial arts and fitness competitions. She’s only worked limited NXT live events. Mercedes Martinez, age 36, is a longtime veteran of the indie scene and someone fans have wanted to see get a shot for years. She’s been working since 2000, and has been a regular for SHIMMER, SHINE and more; she’s a veteran of 420 matches. Martinez mocks Li a bit to begin. Martinez takes control at the bell, and easily outwrestles Li. Li fires up with a series of leg kicks, and follows with running forearms; she cradles Martinez for 1. Li blocks attacks from Martinez, goes back to the kicks and gets a cover for 2. Li then follows with strikes and kicks, buy runs into a spinebuster for 2. Martinez has had enough of this bullshit, working a Romero special and then locking in a dragon sleeper for the submission win.
Mercedes Martinez defeated Xia Li @ 3:20 via submission

– We get a video package for Rachel Evers vs. Marti Belle.

Rachel Evers vs. Marti Belle
Rachel Evers, age 24, is the daughter of Paul Ellering and has a background in power lifting. She started working in 2015, and was trained by Lance Storm. She’s worked 68 matches so far. Marti Belle, age 29, has been working since 2008 and was trained by Johnny Rodz. She had a cup of coffee in TNA, and has worked 224 matches. Belle tries to stall right away, they lock up and work to the ropes. Belle hits a rough looking suplex, covering for 1. Evers looks to work her power game, lays in the boots and covers for 2. Evers hits an STO and leg drop off the ropes for 1. Belle to the apron, and stuns Evers off the ropes to take control. She lays in a series of sloppy looking strikes, they are moving in slow motion here. Evers fights back, slamming Belle to the buckles. Evers lays in strikes, kicks and a running senton. Evers hits a rough looking spinebuster for a near fall. Evers then hits a fisherman slam for 2. Belle fights back, hits a face buster, and that gets 2.Evers then gets a roll up for the win, thank God that’s over.

Rhea Ripley vs. Miranda Salinas
Rhea Ripley (aka Demi Bennett) is a 20-year old competitor from Australia. She’s been working since 2013, and is signed to a WWE developmental deal. She’s worked 69 matches in her career thus far. Miranda Salinas, age 23, has been working since 2016, and was trained by Booker T, and only has 17 matches under her belt. Ripley just oozes charisma and looks like a star based on her entrance alone. Ripley is about a foot taller than Salinas. Salinas heels it up early, pulling the hair to try and gain an advantage. Ripley hits a dropkick, but after Salinas takes a powder, she’s right back in and attacks. They trade strikes, with Salinas grounding Ripley and taking control. Ripley quickly fires back, hits a dropkick and follows with the running corner boot. The hesitation dropkick follows, but Salinas kicks out at 2. She gets a desperation roll up, but eats a big kick and full nelson slam, and Ripley wins.
Rhea Ripley defeated Miranda Salinas @ 4:06 via pin

– We get a video package for Mia Yim vs. Sarah Logan.

Mia Yim vs. Sarah Logan
Mia Yim is 28 years old, has been working since 2009, had a run in TNA and is a SHIMMER vet. She’s a veteran of 336 matches. Sarah Logan, age 23, is a WWE developmental talent, formerly known as Crazy Mary Dobson. She’s been working since 2011, and is a veteran of 256 matches. They work a basic back and forth opening stretch, Logan is really aggressive but Yim is able to use her speed, cut her off and lay in some kicks. Logan quickly takes things to the ground, works ground and pound, and follows with a basement dropkick. Yim has had enough of that bullshit, firing back with strikes, kicks and a knee strike for the near fall. Yim follows with more kicks, and then works the tarantula. The missile dropkick follows for 2. Yim then locks in a rolling guillotine, Logan fights and powers out. They trade strikes center ring, and then fire up slapping the shit out of each other and they continue the fights on the feet. Logan hits a cartwheel into a running knee strike for a good near fall. Yim fights back, hits a pair of Germans for a near fall. Logan is resilient here, continuing to fight back, hitting the charging knees in the corner. The fisherman’s suplex scores for 2. Yim avoids knee strikes, and hits eat defeat and Logan is done.
Mia Yim defeated Sarah Logan @ 7:20 via pin

Ayesha Raymond, aka Amazon, is 27 and has been working since 2009. She’s worked 167 matches so far. Toni Storm is 21, and has been working since 2009. The New Zealand native became very popular for her work in PROGRESS, has also worked a lot in STARDOM, and is a veteran of 270 matches. Storm is another performer who just oozes charisma and star power. Raymond refuses to shake hands, she shoves Storm around and looks to ground the action early. Storm works some slick counters, takes Raymond down and lays in some hip attacks that would make Taguchi proud. Raymond fights back, working the power game. After some slams, she chokes out Storm in the ropes; Storm fights back with a head butt and backstabber. The running knee and northern lights follow. Storm up top, but Raymond slams her off and then she heads up top. She takes too much time, faking out the fans, and then misses the top rope splash; Storm rolls her up for the win.

Dakota Kai vs. Kavita Devi
Dakota Kai, better known as Evie, is 29 and under a WWE developmental deal. She’s been working since 2007, and has had 109 matches. Kavita Devi started working in 2016, is from India and was trained by Great Khali. She is an accomplished powerlifter who represented India in international competition, including the 2016 South Asian Games, where she won gold in the 75 kg category. This looks to be her first match on record. They start out, working a very basic opening stretch. Devi uses her power advantage, and then does a slow motion lucha arm drag. She continues to assault the arm of Kai; Kai tries to fire back, picks up the pace and hits a sunset flip and then Devi swats away the dropkick attempts. Devi follows with a press slam, and again starts to toss Kai around the ring once again. Devi is very rough and repetitive here; Kai picks up the pace and kicks her face off. The top rope double stomp hits and Kai moves on.
Dakota Kai defeated Kavita Devi @ 4:05 via pin

Bianca Belair, age 28, is a WWE developmental talent and former CrossFit competitor and powerlifter. She’s been working for just under a year, and has 38 matches under her belt. Sage Beckett, age 32, started working g in 2007, but took time off due to health issues. She is a WWE developmental talent, who was trained at the Team 3D Academy, and has worked 98 matches. Belair has a ton of charisma, is in great shape and has a big braid of hair that she uses as a weapon. They shove a bit to begin, Beckett looks to go to the power game and slams Belair and hits the running elbow drop for 2. Beckett maintains control, but Belair avoids the corner charge and his the dropkick. She lays in the boots to Beckett, follows with forearms and a lariat for 2. Belair trips up Beckett, works her over and hits a leg drop and running frog splash. Beckett fights back and hits the full nelson bomb for a near fall. Beckett follows with strikes, the corner splash and a running kick for 2. The knee lift follows, and she then slams Belair into the tree of WHOA. A corner splash follows. Beckett climbs the ropes, but misses the Vader splash. Belair whips her with the long braid of hair, and hits the spear to advance.

Piper Niven vs. Santana Garrett
Piper Niven (aka Viper) is 26, and has been working since 2008. She’s known for her work in ICW, STARDOM, WCPW and many other promotions, She’s a veteran on 296 matches. Santana Garrett, age 29, had been working since 2009. She had a cup of coffee in TNA, and has worked all over the place, including STARDOM. She’s a veteran of 420 matches. Niven immediately over powers Garrett to the corner, plays with her as bit and then takes Garrett down and scores an early near fall. Garrett looks to use her speed, tries for a variation on the octopus hold but Niven slams her down and escapes. Niven misses a sit-down splash, Garrett works some kicks and hits a head scissors. She looks to speed up the action again, but Niven wipes her out with a running cross body. Niven works the cravat and slows the action, as JR yammers on about bangers and mash. Niven keeps control, hits a short-armed clothesline and that gets 2. Garrett cuts off the corner splash, heads to the apron and then hits the slingshot DDT for a near fall. Garrett fires up avoids the clothesline and hit eat defeat. The springboard back elbow follow, but Niven cuts off the bulldog and hits a running splash for a good near fall. Nevin pulls Garrett to the corner, climbs up but Garrett tries to cut her off and does; the head scissors of the ropes follows for another good near fall. Garrett hits the superkick, but misses the lionsault; Niven hits a running senton, and Michinoku driver and advances.

Renee Michelle has been working since 2013. She’s had 99 matches under her belt. Candice LeRae, age 31, is another veteran that many have been waiting to see in WWE. She has been working since 2002, and is a veteran of 284 matches. I am thrilled to see LeRae get this chance, she even gets “Candice Wrestling” chants. They work back and forth, with both going for pins and using some slick counters to escape. LeRae hits a jawbreaker and lucha arm drag. The missile dropkick follows for 2. LeRae looks to keep it grounded, but Michelle cuts off LeRae with a facebuster, covering for 2. Michelle follows with kicks, but LeRae cuts her off with a code breaker. Clothesline and elbows follow; the neck breaker gets 2. Michelle battles back, hits a superman punch. She kips up and hits a high kick, covering for 2. Michelle up top but misses the moonsault, LeRae hits the basement dropkick, covering for 2. They work up top now, and LeRae hits the neck breaker off the ropes and puts Michelle away.

Lacey Evans vs. Taynara Conti
Lacey Evans is a WWE developmental talent and former Military Occupational Specialty officer in the marines. In just around a year of experience, she’s worked 64 matches. Taynara Conti, age 22, is another WWE developmental talent, working for just around a year. She is a black-belt judoka and a blue belt in jiu-jitsu, but has only worked 10 matches so far. Conti takes the heel role right away, talking shit to Evans, who due to her real life background is a natural babyface. Evans looks to use her size to ground Conti, but Conti connects with kicks and takes Evans down. Conti takes control, working knee strikes and throws to pick up a near fall. Conti takes the heat, continuing to keep Evans on the defense. Conti hits knee strikes and a judo throw almost into a catatonic. Evans cuts her off, hitting neck breakers; the jig n tonic puts Conti away.

Nicole Savoy vs. Reina Gonzalez
Reina Gonzalez is a WWE developmental talent, who started training in 2014 and is the daughter of Ricky Gonzalez. She played basketball at Sam Houston State University, but has only worked 12 matches, all under the WWE umbrella. Nicole Savoy, age 31, has been working since 2001 and made a big name for herself in SHIMMER. She’s worked 104 matches, and is coming off of a torn ACL. Gonzalez uses her power to begin, controlling and sending Savoy to the mat. Savoy fires up, hits a RANA and then follows with kicks. Gonzalez cuts her off by using the hair, and then hitting a clothesline. Savoy looks for a knee bar, but Gonzalez easily escapes and beats her down with strikes. The sidewalk slam follows for 2. Gonzalez then works a Boston crab variation, Savoy rolls out but Gonzalez keeps control. Savoy attacks the arm, and rolls into an arm bar. Gonzalez taps. Nicole Savoy defeated Reina Gonzalez @ 4:30 via submission

– We get a Kairi Sane vs. Tessa Blanchard video package.

Kairi Sane vs. Tessa Blanchard
Tessa Blanchard, age 22, is the daughter of Tully Blanchard. She’s been working since 2014, and has put in a lot of performances with SHIMMER & STARDOM; she has 167 matches under her belt. Kairi Sane, age 28, was one of the top stars for STARDOM before being signed by WWE. She’s been working since 2012, and is a veteran of 302 matches. This is a really smart pairing, as they have worked together in STARDOM. They have a good crowd early here as they work a slow opening stretch. Blanchard takes control working out of the test of strength, she lays in some cheap shots but Sane cuts off the attack with a running blockbuster. Blanchard catches Sane in the ropes, crotches her and hits a lung blower for 2. Sane escapes the abdominal stretch, but Blanchard fires up with strikes, but Sane hits the sear and both are down. Sane follows with chops as the crowd gets behind her, the sliding corner clothesline connects, but Blanchard rolls away from the elbow drop; Sane hits a flying forearm for 2. Sane works the octopus hold, but Blanchard walks her to the ropes and then chokes out Sane in the ropes. Blanchard continues to attack, hits a series of short-armed clotheslines and follows with the belly to back suplex for 2. Blanchard heads up top, but Sane cuts her off and follows her up. Blanchard sends her back to the mat with a head butt and follows with a senton for the near fall. Blanchard is pissed that as he didn’t get 3. Sane fights off the hammerlock DDT, and they then trade pinning attempts. Sane fires back with kicks, hits the Alabama slam and heads up top. The fans want the elbow drop, they know. Sane up top and hits the he elbow drop for the win.

Soo, gerade alle 4 Episoden gebinged
Definitiv ein guter Einstand, auch wenn einige Matches in Runde 1 doch hinter den Erwartungen zurückblieben mMn und nicht besonders unterhaltsam waren. Kann aber auch daran liegen, das wirklich einige eher unerfahrene Teilnehmerinnen dabei waren.
Da es 16 Matches sind, werd ich mir mal als erstes die 5 besten rauspicken, zum Senf dazu geben, und danach weiteren Highlights und die Negativpunkte begutachten

Top Matches:

1. Kairi Sane vs. Tessa Blanchard
Da hat man einfach die Erfahrung der beiden bemerkt. Zwei Top Workerin die auch im Gegensatz zu einigen anderen ihr Können abrufen durften.
Schade allerdings das Tessa nun schon in Runde 1 raus ist, sie hätte ich gerne noch mal gesehen.
Kairi war eigentlich von Anfang an die klare Siegerin und ist auch mein persönlicher (gewollter) Favorit.
Pirate Princess, yay yay yay

2. Santana Garrett vs. Piper Niven
Hier, ähnlich wie bei Sane gegen Blanchard, zwei sehr erfahrene Mädels im Ring. Und auch hier sehr schade das Santana bereits raus ist, sie hätte ich auch gern in Runde 2 oder gar Halbfinale gesehen. Piper Niven ist aber natürlich außergewöhnlich für ihre Statue und ihr Körpergewicht. Verständlich das man sie drin behalten wollte.

3. Mia Yim vs. Sarah Logan
Man merkt, das Muster wiederholt sich. Die "alten Hasen" im Geschäft haben hier einfach durch die Bank gute Leistungen gezeigt. (Auch wenn Logan ja auch erst junge 23 ist).
Mia Yim gegen Kairi Sane wäre für mich so eine kleine Traumpaarung für die Zukunft. Mit Mia ist hier mMn die richtige weiter gekommen, aber Sarah Logan ebenfalls sehr stark.

4. Jazzy Gabert vs. Abbey Laith
Unser ganzer Stolz, Jazzy Gabert aka Alpha Female, hat eine klasse Figur abgegeben und strahlte mMn von allen Teilnehmerinnen des Turniers mit am meisten Charisma aus. Allein wie sie am Anfang Abbey nach den Schlägen anbrüllte, das brachte die ganze Arena zum kochen. Good Job Jazzy

5. Sage Beckett vs. Bianca Belair
Ein Match, das ich nicht so weit oben erwaretet hatte bei mir. Aber ich fand Bianca Belair sehr beeindruckend dafür, dass sie erst 1 Jahr im Wrestling ist. Und vorallem von der Athletik her. Wenn sie sich weiter anstrengt, kann sie groß rauskommen. Auch wenn ich den ewig langen Zopf immer noch irritierend finde

Weitere Highlights:

Die anderen "Veteranen", wie Toni Storm (die ich von der Ausstrahlung auch einfach klasse finde), Dakota Kai, Nicole Savoy und Candice LaRae wussten ebenfalls zu überzeugen, auch wenn sie Aufgrund ihrer Gegner nicht ganz alles abrufen konnten, was sie können. Aber dafür ist ja noch Zeit in Runde 2 usw.

Von den Unerfahrenen haben mich einige überrascht, andere haben es leider deutlich gezeigt.
Taynara Conti, Kavita Devi und vorallem Rhea Rippley zeigten alle gutes Potenzial.

Negativpunkte:

Xia Li, Rachel Evers, Marti Belle oder auch Zeda haben noch einiges zu lernen und haben sich eher weniger gut präsentiert.
Von Shayna Baszler bin ich auch noch nicht überzeugt, allerdings strahlt sie etwas gefährliches aus. Wenn sie das richtig einsetzen, kanns klappen.
Die anderen, nicht erwähnten, bewegten sich eher auf Durschnitt, sofern ich niemanden vergessen habe.

Bei den Matches an sich hatte ich öfters das Gefühl, man wollte einige Damen nicht so richtig von der Leine lassen und ist lieber auf Nummer Sicher gegangen. Sei es Verletzungsrisiko oder sonstwas. Auf der einen Seite verständlich, auf der anderen etwas schade.
Aber mal sehen wie es ab Runde 2 + Finals so wird.

Und was die Finals betrifft, hoffe ich weiterhin darauf, dass sie es NICHT nach SmackDown in der großen Halle machen. Ich fürchte da wirklich um tote Hose. Die Stimmung bei 205 Live ist auch schon nicht gerade toll und die machen wenigstens ein paar Highspots.
Das könnte ganz bös nach Hinten losgehen. Dann lieber in Fullsail wo eine Hardcore Crowd ist die auch richtig mitmachtund anfeuert.

So, und nun, nun kommt der kleine Absprung in den Sexismus. Da man als Mann ja bei Frauen hier und da gerne auf andere Dinge achtet, habe ich mir rausgenommen, eine Top 5 der für mich persönlich heißesten Teilnehmerinnen zu erstellen. Take that, feminists

Abbey Laith vs. Rachel Evers
Abbey Laith defeated Jazzy Gabert in a good match in the first round, while Rachel Evers defeated Marti Belle in the worst match in the tournament so far. They work the power vs. speed battle early, with Laith sending Evers to the floor and following with a suicide dive. Back in and Laith covers for 2. Evers fires back, hitting a cutter and running senton, scoring a near fall. Evers takes control, hitting a springboard leg drop and bicycle kick. They then both go for kicks, and get a double down. They trade forearm strikes, Laith heads up top but Evers cuts her off, and his the powerslam off the top for a good near fall. Laith then counters a big boot, hits the powerbomb and follows with the alligator clutch for the win.

Piper Niven vs. Serena Deeb
Serena Deeb defeated Vanessa Borne in a solid first round match, Niven beat Santana Garrett in what I felt was the best first round match. They lock up and Niven takes Deeb to the corner right away. Niven overpowers to begin, Deeb looks to work a side headlock, tries for a slam but Niven was too much and Deeb collapsed under the pressure. Niven slows the pace, Deeb gets a sneaky roll up for 2, and then looks for the side headlock but Niven cuts that off with a Saito suplex. The running cross body connects and Niven covers for 2. Deeb counters the running senton, getting the knees up and goes back to the side headlock. Deeb lays in the big babyface jabs, comes off the ropes and hits a lung blower. She hits a short slam and then a neck breaker, covering for 2. Niven fights off Deeb, slams her to the corner and hits the cannonball for 2. Deeb manages to hit the snap mare driver, covering for 2. She sets for the spear, but Niven sidesteps her and sends her to the buckles. Niven then hits the Vader slash out of the corner, but Deeb kicks out for a great near fall. The crowd chants for one more, but Niven now head all the way up top and misses the splash. Deeb looks to fire up, but Niven snatches her up into the Michinoku driver for the win.

Mercedes Martinez vs. Princesa Sugehit
Mercedes Martinez defeated newcomer Zia Li in the first round, while Pricesa Sugehit unjustly defeated Kay Lee Ray. These are the two most experienced women in the tournament. They work to the mat early on, Martinez had enough of that grappling bullshit and started to fire away with strikes. Sugehit cuts her off, hitting the cannonball and covering for 2. Martinez cuts her off, and hits rolling suplex into a draping neck breaker for 2. Martinez misses a running boot, allowing Sugehit to hit the code breaker. Martinez cuts off the monkey flip, they now work up top and Sugehit dumps her to the mat. The tornado DDT follows and we have a double down. Sugehit manages to crawl over and cover for 2. Sugehit hits a la mistica and into the arm bar. Martinez fights out, hits the fisherman’s buster and picks up the win.

Kairi Sane vs. Bianca Belair
Sane defeated Ressa Blanchard in a good first round match, while Belair defeated Sage Beckett. Belair is a great athlete, has great charisma and great confidence in front of the crowd; she shows amazing overall potential. Belair looks to use the hair whip early, backing off Sane. Belair goes to her power game, grounding Sane early. It’s all Belair right now hitting shoulder blocks and frustrating Sane. Belair blows a kiss at her, but Sane catches it and stomps on it. Sane ten hits the dropkick, and blows a kiss at Belair. Belair fires back with the hair whip, and that got some heat from the crowd. She whips the shit out of Sane in the corner, and follows with a hip toss and clothesline for 2. Belair powers out of a hanging guillotine, and then does squats during a delayed vertical suplex. Belair follows with a grounded full nelson, and then into an implant buster, covering for 2. Belair follows with ground and pound, but the running splash eats knees. Sane fires up with chops, going all Kojima in the corner on Belair. The flying forearm connects for 2. Sane locks in the strangle hold, Belair fights to her feet and escapes. She then hits the powerslam, covering for 2. They trade strikes, Belair keeps knocking Sane down, but Sane keeps fighting. Belair hits a big spinebuster, heads up top and hits the big 450… but Sane kicks out! Belair misses the charge, posting herself and that allows Sane to hit the sliding forearm and spinning backfist. Sane up top… ELBOW DROP connects and Belair is done.

Evans defeated Taynara Conti in the first round, while Storm defeated Ayesha Raymond to get here. They lock up and work some clean back and forth, Evans looks for the head scissors but Storm escapes. Evans looks to pick up the pace and use her power, but Storm cuts her off and hits some hip attacks until Evans rolled her up for 2. Evans slams Storm to the corner, trips her up and hits a slingshot elbow drop for 2. Evans keeps Storm grounded, attacking the arm and staying a step ahead of Storm. Storm fights back, hitting knee strikes and forearms. Hits the backstabber, running hip attack and then a suplex. Evans looks for jig ‘n’ tonic, but Storm escapes and hits the neck breaker across the knee for the win.

Shayna Baszler vs. Mia Yim
Baszler defeated Zeda to get here, while Yim defeated Sarah Logan. We see Charlotte, Bayley, & Becky Lynch at ringside, Baszler blows them off as they talk some trash. Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke are also ringside. Baszler refuses the handshake, and the crowd is very pro-Yim her. Thy trade kicks to begin, with Baszler getting the best of that. Yim fights back, sends Baszler to the floor and hits the suicide dive. Back in and Yim covers for 2. She looks for eat defeat, but Baszler attacks the knee. She then hits rolling gut wrench suplexes. But before Baszler can follow up, Yim locks in the tarantula and then hits a cannonball. Baszler quickly attacks the leg again, but Yim makes the ropes. Yim lays in a series of strikes, hits the PELE and covers for 2. Baszler then cuts off Yim with a knee strike, but Yim quickly counters back with a bridging German for 2. Baszler counters the second attempt, rolling into the ankle lock. Yim rolls and escapes with kicks. Yim counters the high kick, scooping up Baszler and hitting the sitout powerbomb for a really good near fall. Yim heads up top now, but the 450 eats knees, and Baszler locks in the rear naked choke and Yim has to tap.
Shayna Baszler defeated Mia Yim @ 5:17 via submission

– Baszler celebrates with the MMA Horsewomen and stares down with WWE Horsewomen. Commentary pushed the possible feud big time.

– We get a video package for Rhea Ripley vs. Dakota Kai.

Mae Young Classic – 2nd Round Match
Dakota Kai vs. Rhea Ripley
Ripley defeated Miranda Salinas, while Kai defeated Kavita Devi to get here. They lock up and Ripley looks to use her size and power to control, Kai picks up the pace and hits arm drags. The dropkick follows, and then kicks follows. Jai send b to the floor, but Ripley then hits an electric chair onto the apron, and that gets 2. Ripley now works a cravat, slowing the action. She follows with knee strikes, kicks and abasement dropkick for 2. Kai gets a roll up, but Ripley escapes and hits a pop up flapjack, covering for 2. Ripley looks for the full nelson slam, but Kai counters out with a kick. After some counters, Kai kits a kick, dropkick and face wash kick for a near fall. Ripley then hits a superkick and northern lights suplex for the near fall. Ripley lays the boot to Kai, sets her up top and follows her up. Kai fights off the superplex, they trade strikes, Ripley into the tree of WHOA and Kai hits the double stomp and that’s good enough to pick up the win.

She takes LaRae to he corner, lays in strikes but then misses a charge. LaRae hits a tornado DDT, but Savoy hits a Saito suplex to cut her off, covering for 2. Savoy hits another suplex, and then goes to her submission game, but LaRae counters out, working a surfboard variation. Savoy counters, and looks for the choke, but LaRae escapes. LaRae hits a code breaker, but misses a charge. LaRae heads up top but Savoy trips her off the ropes, covering for 2. Savoy follows with rolling butterfly suplexes, looks for the arm bar, but LaRae kicks away at her to escape. LaRae looks to springboard of the ropes, but is caught with a German suplex, and Savoy covers for 2. LaRae counters the dragon suplex, dropping down and hitting a kick. She then locks in an octopus hold, but Savoy slams her to the corner. Savoy picks up the pace, hitting a corner charge and sets her up top. She looks for a superplex, but LaRae fights her off and they trade strikes up top. LaRae hits the wild ride off the ropes and picks up the win.

Mercedes Martinez vs. Abbey Laith
They work the test of strength to begin; Laith then gets a takedown and attacks the arm. Martinez slaps the hit out of Laith, they go back to the ground and Martinez slaps Laith again. Chops follow and then big forearm strikes by Martinez. Martinez follows with kicks, Laith gets a cradle for 2 and then a jawbreaker. Arm drags follow for Laith, forearm strikes follow and then chops. Martinez cuts her off with a kicks, covering for 2. Martinez is selling the shoulder damage from her last match, which is appreciated. Martinez now lights up Laith with chops, but Laith fires back and hits the bicycle kick, covering for 2. Laith lays n kicks in the corner, but Martinez cuts her off and stomps away at her. Martinez hits a running forearm, a kick an then the basement dropkick in the corner. They work to the apron, Laith knocks Martinez to he floor with kicks and now heads up top. The high cross follows and both are down on the floor. Back in and Laith covers for 2. She looks for the alligator clutch again, but Martinez counters and tosses her to the floor. Laith counters a suplex, floats over and hits a German for a near fall. Laith goes for the clutch, Martinez counters out, hits a big boot and the fisherman’s buster and picks up the win.

Shayna Baszler vs. Candice LeRae
The winner of this faces Martinez in the semifinals. No handshake from Baszler. Baszler attacks at the bell, laying out Candice with a knee strike. Baszler misses a charging kick, allowing Candice to knock her to the floor. Candice follows with the suicide dive into the DDT on the ramp. Back in and Candice covers for 2. She then locks in the octopus, and then transitions onto the crossface. Baszler struggles for the ropes, but manages to roll out and into a side slam to escape. Candice stomps away at her, heads up top but Baszler cuts that off. Baszler looks for a suplex, they battle up top. Candice goes for the wild ride, but Baszler counters in mid air into the rear naked choke and Candice taps immediately.
Shayna Baszler defeated Candice LaRae @ 3:10 via submission

– Baszler refuses to let go of the hold, continuing to choke out Candice. Baszler finally releases the hold, as Johnny Gargano and trainers check on Candice. Baszler kicks at Candice as she’s being checked on.

– We get a video package for Piper Niven vs. Toni Storm.

Mae Young Classic – Quarter Final Match
Toni Storm vs. Piper Niven
They’re a bit playful to begin, Niven looks to work her size and power advantage, forcing Storm to the mat and going for near falls. They work a fun opening stretch onto a double bridge spot and shake hands. Storm picks up the pace, they work some nice counters until Storm bridges up and gets too playful, allowing Niven to hit a big splash. She follows with the corner splash, and then hits the running cross body for 2. Storm hits a desperation head butt, but Niven takes her down with a snap mare, hits a running splash and then a senton for 2. Storm manages to hit a backstabber for the double down. Storm tries to fire up, but misses the hip attack; Niven misses a cannonball, allowing Storm to finally hit the hip attack. Storm looks for a German, but Niven escapes and hits the Michinoku driver for a great near fall. Niven is pissed, hits the cannonball and heads to the ropes, but Storm snatches her off the ropes and hits a big German! Storm up top now, hits the top rope leg drop and puts Niven away.

– They hug post match.

– WWE cameras catch up with Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke. They put over Baszler and then Bayley, Becky and Charlotte arrive. Rousey tells them to name the time and place.

– We get a video package for Kairi Sane vs. Dakota Kai.

Mae Young Classic – Quarter Final Match
Kairi Sane vs. Dakota Kai
After a friendly opening stretch, both fire up and work strikes and kicks. Sane hits a running blockbuster and then lays in big time chops. Kai cuts her off with a kick as Sane heads up top and then lays in kicks and a running knee strike, which gets 2. Kai keeps control, working kicks and covering for 2. Sane hits a desperation spear, and she’s pissed. She follows with chops and a dropkick, the standing double stomp follows and the cover gets 2. Kai trips her up and then destroys Sane with a big yakuza kick, which gets 2. Sane cut off the kick, attacks the knee and hits a spinning backfist. Sane up top and pulls Kai from the apron up top. Kai knocks Sane into the tree of WHOA, but Sane avoids the double stomp. Kai is favoring her knee and sane hits the flying forearm from the top, covering for 2. The sliding forearm follows, and Sane again gets 2. Kai hits the big head kick and Sane is down. She sets and charges, but misses the corner yakuza, hurting her knee again, Sane hits the Alabama slam, heads up top and hits the big elbow drop, putting Kai away.
Kairi Sane defeated Dakota Kai @ 8:25 via pin

Mae Young Classic – Semi Final #1
Shayna Baszler vs. Mercedes Martinez
These two are stablemates in SHIMMER, and for the first time in the tournament, Baszler shakes hands with her opponent. They work a tentative opening stretch, since they know each other so well. Martinez then throws caution to the wind and fires up with strikes and chops. Martinez continues to attack, taking Baszler down and laying in kicks. Martinez grounds the action, but Baszler finally gets to her feet and attacks with a flurry of strikes. The rolling gut wrench suplexes follow, and Baszler covers for 2. Baszler then locks in a heel hook, transitioning to a knee bar and Martinez manages to escape. She then works a Regal stretch, keeping Baszler grounded, but trying to work a more pro wrestling style submission game. They trade strikes from their knees, Baszler gets pissed but then lays in leg kicks. Martinez counters out of a suplex and hits the fisherman’s buster but she can’t cover right away and when she does, Baszler kicks out at 2. Martinez hits a Saito suplex, and another. The German follows, she looks for another fisherman’s buster but Baszler fights that off. Baszler now hits the falcon arrow into the rear naked choke; Martinez fights but has to tap.

– Triple H, Sara Amato (Sara Del Rey), and Stephanie McMahon are in the ring to congratulate both women, and to raise Baszler’s hand.

Mae Young Classic – Semi Final #2
Kairi Sane vs. Toni Storm
Despite Lita’s incorrect information, these two have faced off in the past, so this is a smart match up. The winner moves onto the finals against Baszler. They work size vs. speed to begin, Sane looks to take it to the mat but Storm keeps control. We see Baszler watching on from the back. Storm looks to work the arm early, but sane fires back with strikes and heads up top, Storm avoids the attack but Sane hits the dropkick. Storm quickly goes back to the arm, and follows with uppercuts. Sane fires back, but misses a charge and falls to the floor. Storm follows to the apron, Sane slams he back first to the apron and she heads up top and hits a high cross, and her face ate the ramp. OUCH. That may have been where she suffered her concussion. She’s up right away, and back in, covers Storm for 2. She works the Boston crab now. Storm fights and makes the ropes. Storm cuts off the sliding lariat and hits a German. Storm hits a hip attack, but Sane pops up and hits the spear for the double down. Sane’s face is all scratched up from that high cross spot. They trade strikes center ring, they fire up and keep trading but Sane cuts her off with a double axe handle. Sane up top, but Storm cuts her off with a bridging muscle buster for a great near fall. Lita called it strong zero, but that’s Storm’s piledriver. Storm is shocked that Sane kicked out. Storm drags Sane to her feet, blocks the backfist and transitions into the arm bar. Sane’s selling is so good here as Storm cranks back on the arm. Sane screams and struggles as the crowd tries to rally her. Sane escapes into a cradle, Storm lays her out with a forearm smash, Storm up top and hits the leg drop across the back. Sane is clutching her arm, but hits the desperation backfist and locks in a leg lock, and then drops an elbow, She heads up top, clutching a her elbow and HITS it and picks up the win!
Kairi Sane defeated Toni Storm @ 14:20 via pin

– Triple H, Sara Amato (Sara Del Rey), and Stephanie McMahon are in the ring again for the congratulations. Sane is in tears. She and Storm embrace post match.

– Sane & Baszler face off to close the show.

Ich war ganz schön überrascht, dachte es geht nur bis Viertelfinale und dann Halbfinale und Finale live. Mensch, dann mussten die vier armen Ladys ja gleich 3 Mal ran an einem Abend xD

Wie erwartet und erhofft haben die Matches in diesen 4 Episoden ordentlich zugelegt, da waren ein paar echte Schmankerl dabei!
Mir Kairi Sane und Shayna Baszler hat man finde ich eine sehr gute Finalpaarung gefunden (wobei ich immer noch verrückt finde, das nach SmackDown stattfinden zu lassen #DeadCrowd #EmptyCrowd ...).
Shayna ist als authentischer Heel während des Turniers aufgetreten, während Kairi die größten Babyface Reaktionen ziehen konnte.

Mal meine Gedanken zu den einzelnen Runden:

Runde 2:

Durch die Bank gute Matches, habe eigentlich keines als schwach oder gar schlecht angesehen.
Bianca BelAir hat mich auch hier wieder wahnsinnig positiv überrascht. In ihrem Match gegen Kairi Sane war sie definitiv die Leuchtfigur.
Allein die peitschenhiebe mit ihrem Zopf - Aua! Und dann der 450 Spash - sehr beeindruckend. Und das alles nach etwas mehr als einem Jahr im Business! Die Dame könnte noch groß rauskommen!
Auch Shayna Baszler gefiel mir ab hier wesentlich besser, man sah ihr zwar immer noch hier und da ein paar kleine Probleme an (Stichwort Selling), aber durch ihre doch ehrfahrenen Gegner in ihren 3 Matches, konnte sie viel öfters glänzen. Sie kam immer wie ein harter und zäher Knochen rüber. Ihr Match gegen Mia Yim gefiel mir am besten. Die kleine Konfrontation zwsichen den zwei Horsewomen Fraktionen war auch cool. Da dürfte uns dann wohl etwas bei der nächsten Wrestlemania zu erwarten.
Rachel Evers empfand ich wie ausgetauscht in ihrem Match, wo sie in Runde 1 teilweise durch die Moves stolperte (so empfand ich es zumindest), war sie hier on point. Vielleicht lags an der Gegnerin?
Und btw, schade das Rhea Rippley rausflog, ahem, einfach ein sehr, ähh... attraktives Mädel!

Viertelfinale:

Bestes Match im Viertelfinale mMn Toni Storm gegen Piper Niven. Einfach wahnsinn wie beweglich und auch technisch begabt Piper bei ihrem Gewicht ist. Ich hoffe sie nehmen sie dauerhaft unter Vertrag.
Bei Dakota Kai schien eine Verletzung im Spiel zu sein? Ihr Knie war ja etwas bandagiert und sie war auch manchmal nicht ganz in ihrem Element. Ansonsten find ich sie aber klasse. Candice LeRae gegen Shayna Baszler hätte einen Tick länger sein können, aber man wollte Shayna wohl weiterhin sehr dominant darstellen.

Halbfinale:

Shayna Baszler vs. Mercedes Martinez war ein schöner Slobberknocker Brawl. Während Kairi Sane vs. Toni Storm eher technisch und mit Speed daherkam. Ein sehr schöner Kontrast zwischen beiden Matches.
Toni vs. Kairi ist bisher mein Match des Turniers. Wirklich erste Sahne was die beiden abgeliefert haben. Auch bei Toni hoffe ich, dass sie sie langfristig binden, mit ihren jungen Jahren hat sie ein wahnsinniges Talent und eine Wagenladung Charisma im Gepäck!

So, dann warten wir mal was das Finale nächste Woche bringen wird. Ich ahne ja, dass uns von der Stimmung und Atmosphäre her eine große Katastrophe bevorsteht. Ich hoffe aber das beste!

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the eight episodes of the tournament were the eight most watched episodes of the week, despite the fact that four of the episodes were released last week.

WWE will air a Mae Young Classic red carpet special on Tuesday night before Smackdown Live

WWE has announced plans for a red carpet special on Tuesday night before the live Mae Young Classic finals. The special will be hosted by Cathy Kelley and will air at 6 pm eastern/3 pm pacific from Las Vegas on WWE’s Facebook account.

Ronda Rousey, Team USA soccer star and two-time Olympic gold medalist Hope Solo, WWE COO Triple H, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, The Bella Twins, Charlotte Flair, and Bayley are among the names that will be part of the red carpet ceremonies. WWE has also announced that cast members from Netflix’ “GLOW” series will also be at the red carpet.

The Mae Young Classic finals will air at 10 pm eastern (after Smackdown Live) on the WWE Network.
