WWE has canceled Talking Smack as a weekly series, multiple sources have confirmed with PWInsider.com.
This past Tuesday's episode was its final episode on the WWE Network.
The series featured a lot of great character and promo work from different Smackdown roster performers including Kevin Owens and Alexa Bliss as well as Daniel Bryan and Renee Young doing a great job hosting.
The current plan, we are told, is to use Talking Smack exclusively as a post-PPV broadcast.
WWE stellt "Talking Smack" mit sofortiger Wirkung als wöchentliche Show ein | UPDATE: Statt "Talking Smack" künftig "Smacking Talk" mit Daniel Bryan & Renee Young nach SmackDown! LIVE

-
Muss man jetzt nicht verstehen oder? Man stellt eines der besten Formate einfach ein... vermutlich deswegen weil man die Show einheitlich wie den RAWtalk ausschließlich nach den PPVs bringen will
-

WWE issued the following statement to PWInsider:
"We continuously review WWE Network’s programming line-up based on a variety of factors, including viewership and subscriber research. Talking Smack and Raw Talk will air following pay-per-view events, and Tuesday will continue to feature 205 LIVE."

WWE Talking Smack hosts were never told about the show being canceled as a weekly series
Talking Smack has been canceled as a weekly series on the WWE Network. The series will continue after Smackdown-branded pay-per-view events. The writing was on the wall when the show was moved to a later timeslot after the company decided to launch 205 Live. Renee Young and Daniel Bryan both indicated that they were not told anything and they were made aware of the news on Twitter.
You’d think that they could at least have told Young because, according to Gene Okerlund’s Facebook page, she was at WWE headquarters when the news broke with Okerlund to film wrap around footage for the WWE Vintage show that is seen outside of the United States.[Blockierte Grafik: https://s2.imagebanana.com/file/170715/dZ5M7AyG.png]

Young also retweeted this tweet: Young also liked tweets from fans expressing disappointment at WWE for not letting her and Bryan know before the news got out online. One of her liked tweets included one from user @ViewtifulJeff that read: “That’s messed up. You’re their best interviewer and they’ve been jerking you around a LOT this year. :/”

Backstage News On Why WWE Talking Smack Was Cancelled
Despite reports of Talking Smack being cancelled due to low viewership, according to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, the reason for the weekly format coming to an end was due to Vince McMahon. The unscripted style of the show played a part as Vince was not pleased with the show and felt it wasn't best for the company's interests.
While still very connected to his TV shows, Vince has been reportedly less physically present at TVs, as of late. He was present last week and made the decision to cut the weekly format, and, per McMahon, eventually end it altogether.
Two of the show's hosts, Daniel Bryan and Renee Young, were apparently unaware of the abrupt change, each sounding off on Twitter. On Friday, WWE put out a statement saying:
"We continuously review WWE Network's programming line-up based on a variety of factors, including viewership and subscriber research. Talking Smack and Raw Talk will air following pay-per-view events, and Tuesday will continue to feature 205 Live."

News On "Talking Smack" Viewership And How It Compared To "205 Live"
Talking Smack will no longer air on Tuesday nights following 205 Live. The show premiered on the WWE Network on August 2, 2016 and would air immediately following SmackDown at 10pm ET. 205 Live premiered on November 29, 2016 and took the 10pm time slot causing Talking Smack to be moved to 11pm ET.
The decision appears to have been a late one, as Talking Smack co-host Daniel Bryan noted that he learned of the cancellation through Twitter on Friday night. As noted, Sports Illustrated reported that the show was cancelled by Vince McMahon who "was unhappy with the show and strongly believed it did not serve the company's best interests." The report also stated that the show being unscripted played into it being dropped.
Last week, Talking Smack was #18 of the most watched shows on the WWE Network. It should be noted that the show still often beat 205 Live. While Talking Smack was #18 last week, 205 Live didn't crack the top 20. WOR:
Talking Smack will continue to air after SmackDown branded pay-per-views. The post-Money In The Bank edition of Talking Smack on June 18th was the fourth most watched show on the Network that week, while the regular edition of Talking Smack was #11 (205 Live was #12). According to the Sports Illustrated report, McMahon plans to eventually drop the post-PPV Talking Smack shows.

More On 'Talking Smack' Being Dropped On Tuesdays, If Viewership Dropped After '205 Live' Was Added
The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer weighed in on WWE scaling back "Talking Smack" on the WWE Network on Sunday night's episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. During the episode, he addressed reports about Vince McMahon being the reason for the show being dropped on Tuesday nights.
"If [Vince McMahon] was that against [Talking Smack] then why is he continuing the show twice a month instead of five times a month or whatever it was before?" Meltzer asked. "So I think that he just wants to do the higher rated ones," Meltzer said. "I don't know. Some people say that it lost steam because it was put on after 205 Live, I mean to a small degree you could say that but you know, 90% of the viewing and more than 90% really. Because 90% of viewing on that WWE Network is video on demand. It's not the live feed."
"…The time the [WWE Network] live feed is strong is during the pay-per-views themselves," explained Meltzer. "Most of the viewing of Talking Smack was always VOD so changing the slot an hour later isn't really going to affect it. I mean it affects it slightly, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't affect it that much. And the fact is before there was 205 Live, Talking Smack still did not do big numbers on the Network most weeks. It was still not among the higher rated stuff."
It was previously reported here at WrestlingINC.com (via Sports Illustrated) that Vince was not pleased with the show and felt it wasn't best for the company's interests.
