Is The Animal going to headline WWE's HoF class of 2018?
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Batista is in consideration to headline the 2018 WWE Hall Of Fame in New Orleans.
Batista's last run in the WWE was in 2014 when he stuck around for about 6 months. However, he wasn't as popular as he was in his previous run, as he won the Royal Rumble, which fans were expecting Daniel Bryan to win. Bryan's overwhelming popularity saw the fans turn on Batista. This resulted in a quick heel turn, and The Animal put over Daniel Bryan and also The Shield.
The last run left a sour taste in Batista's mouth, and he definitely wasn't to blame for that. The creative direction he wanted was to return as a heel, and WWE didn't comply until later. He stated on Chris Jericho's podcast a few years later that he missed wrestling but not what he had to deal with in WWE.
He also said in the same conversation that if he were to return to WWE, it would be in a program with HHH. However, that's not the direction they are interested in right now.
It would be quite surprising if Batista is the headliner. The moment WrestleMania 33 came to a conclusion this year, it seemed clear who should be the one headlining the 2018 Hall Of Fame: The Undertaker.
No other name seems apt to headline the next class more than The Deadman. Edge and Shawn Michaels retired and got inducted into the Hall Of Fame the following year. It only seems apt that someone of Undertaker's calibre is inducted in the first chance.
'Taker's induction would be among the most important inductions in the history of the Hall Of Fame. The only name one could think of as more important is Vince McMahon. However, that is unlikely to happen until he passes.
However, this is not to take anything away from Batista. There is no doubt that he will headline a Hall Of Fame Class at some point. Triple H and Rey Mysterio would arguably be the two best names to induct him. Next year just doesn't seem like the right year for him.
Batista is getting set for Avengers: Infinity Wars part 1, which coincidentally releases around late April/early May of 2018.
WWE has WrestleMania 34 at April 4th, 2018. The rumoured main event is Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.

Bin ich schon so alt, dass ich Batista in der HoF sehe?
Ich weiß nicht.. meiner Meinung nach hat er den Platz verdient, mit Cena einer der letzten großen Stars.

Sportskeeda Exclusive: Sources shoot down Batista Hall of Fame report, top contenders for class of 2018 revealed
Three major names have been shortlisted for next year's class.
Our DirtySheets.Net sources have shot down a recent report claiming David Bautista aka Batista, is set to headline next year's Hall of Fame.
Dave Meltzer recently reported that Batista was being lined up as the headliner for the 2018 Hall of Fame in New Orleans.
According to our source, the report of Batista going in are completely untrue. The WWE is currently working through a shortlist of around 30 people, including 5 potential headliners and Batista is said to not even be among the 30.
Therefore, there is no truth to the story. It's being said that WWE has a plethora of options of next year's Hall of Fame, including Goldberg, Daniel Bryan, and The Undertaker.
The source said:
"Bryan was the clear front-runner with it being New Orleans, but with him being unlikely to stay (with WWE) after 2018 and with Goldberg's induction being postponed last year, Goldberg has to be the favorite.
They've already shot loads of content with him, including a Network doccie (documentary). So as he's already agreed and they don't really want to be spending extra money right now, it's highly likely it'll be him. However, you definitely can't rule out Taker, with his obvious links to New Orleans (where the streak ended)."
Goldberg confirmed that he will be going into the WWE in near future during a recent UK Q & A tour, where he also said he left the company on great terms, with the door still open for another in-ring comeback.

WWE in talks with Goldberg
Our Dirty Sheets sources have exclusively revealed that the WWE made contact with Bill Goldberg last week to discuss Goldberg appearing on RAW 25 and a potential Hall of Fame induction in New Orleans next year.
Goldberg was set to headline last year’s Hall of Fame, however, plans were changed when the WWE took Brock Leanar’s suggestion that Lesnar and Goldberg should work a long-term program. This booking change was aided by the incredible reactions Goldberg was receiving, coupled by his segments drawing strong ratings.
