History could be made at TLC

The Miz may become the latest victim of Vince McMahon's last minute creative changes, as the WWE is looking at changing the plan for the upcoming RAW exclusive TLC PPV, despite pencilling in the plan several weeks ago and even booking towards it on TV.

The current plan is for The Miz to main event the show in a TLC match for his Intercontinental Championship, in the absence of Brock Lesnar. This would be the first time in 25 years that the Intercontinental Championship headlines a PPV.

However, an alternative main event is now on the table that could lead to the reshuffling of the entire PPV.

The Miz has been complaining on TV for several weeks about how Kurt Angle is under-utilising him and giving more opportunities to the likes of Roman Reigns, John Cena and especially his son, Jason Jordan.

The Miz's complaining is expected to build towards Angle finally throwing his hands up and booking The Miz into a multi-man TLC main event. This is why The Miz has been mentioning on TV that he should be in the main event.

Another major match on the card is set to feature Rollins and Ambrose defending against The Hardyz.

However, the latest pitch, which was made last Monday, could see The Miz dropping down to card to defend his Intercontinental Championship against Jeff Hardy, with the main event being changed to a No.1 contender's TLC match, where the winner would winner would face Brock Lesnar when he returns at the Royal Rumble.

It's likely that the WWE will go with The Miz, based on the fact they have invested several weeks on television into the storyline. However, the alternative is currently being discussed and is definitely on the table.

The Miz will defend his Intercontinental Championship at No Mercy this Sunday, against Jason Jordan.

The Intercontinental Championship hasn't headlined a PPV since 1992, and The Miz would be a deserving person to end that run, given his solid work in restoring the title's credibility. You only have to compare the 6 months that Dean Ambrose had the title for, to the two title runs The Miz has had his run with, to see how much better The Miz has been as Champion. He has rapidly grown in prominence and the belt has grown with him- solidifying the saying, "the man makes the belt, the belt doesn't make the man".

Could TLC be the show for a massive reunion?

The TLC pay-per-view will witness the debut of Asuka but is rumoured to have an even bigger move in store.

According to James McKenna of Pro Wrestling Sheet, the WWE may be planning to reunite The Shield at the TLC pay-per-view.

The Shield debuted at Survivor Series 2012 and cost Ryback the WWE Championship in his match against John Cena and CM Punk. Since their debut, the stable was highly praised for making tag team wrestling a lot more interesting than it had been.

The stable disbanded in 2014 and there have been glimpses and moments where all three men showed unity like they did in the olden days but nothing more happened.

If these rumours are to be believed, WWE is continuing their trend of making their non-Big Four pay-per-views into bigger events by giving away big moments and matches that many fans feel are worthy of stages like Survivor Series or WrestleMania.

Another important factor is that TLC is currently billed as a Raw-exclusive pay-per-view, so the options for teams opposing the reunited Shield would be limited if they would be having a match.

With no plausible teams in sight for The Shield to face, there is a chance that they could fight a SmackDown team at Survivor Series and that the TLC pay-per-view will merely be a catalyst for their reunion.

The Shield reuniting would make for a big moment, but the rumoured WrestleMania match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar makes it less likely for this reunion to last through Survivor Series.

If The Shield does return, it probably won’t be a for a long-term segment.

Tonight's WWE RAW from Ontario, California will open with WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz interviewing Roman Reigns on a special edition of MizTV.

Miz approached RAW General Manager Kurt Angle at last night's WWE No Mercy 2017 pay-per-view and requested the segment for RAW as he wanted to be the one to get the first comments from Reigns following his big win over John Cena tonight. Miz also mentioned wanting to ask Reigns about some rumors going around the locker room on Reigns and his former partners in The Shield, RAW Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins and Ambrose.

Angle granted the segment to Miz and said he would open the show but it sounded like Angle might have a match for Miz in mind. We noted earlier that Jason Jordan stated in his No Mercy post-match interview that he wanted a rematch after Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas interfered to help The Miz retain the gold.

Pro Wrestling Sheet Senior News Producer James McKenna first broke the news this weekend on Twitter of a Shield reunion being in the works and that was clearly telegraphed last night.

For those who missed it, The Miz made multiple references to the popular stable during an interview segment at the top of the show. He also beat down Roman Reigns after their match with the Miztourage, then mocked him with a Shield-like fist bump.

It’s unclear at this point who they’ll be facing, but we’re told The Miztourage being their opponents is NOT set in stone at this point.

FUN FACT: Their first match as a team was against Ryback and Team Hell No at TLC 2012.

If the match is to take place, it could be announced after next week's edition of MizTV. The Miz will interview Cesaro & Sheamus in that segment and after Miz, Cesaro and Sheamus mocked Reigns with Shield-style taunts after beating him down this week, it's likely that The Shield interrupts the interview. Cesaro and Sheamus had taken out Ambrose and Rollins earlier in the night on this week's show.
