Ringside News is reporting on a recent Q&A session that WWE Hall Of Famer Lita had in Paris, France. During this session, Lita revealed that there are talks of the WWE adding a tag team division for the women.
The WWF, as it was known back there, actually had a tag team championship for the women. The championship debuted in 1983, but the WWF deactivated the championship 1989 with only five total title reigns.
More recently, Impact Wrestling created a tag team championship for the Knockouts Division in 2009. The first champions were Sarita and Taylor Wilde. The title would only last for a few years as the company deactivated it in 2013.
There have been many firsts for the WWE over the past year starting with the first ever Hell In A Cell match between Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks. The Money In The Bank concept debuted for the women this year with Carmella being the first winner of the briefcase.
With the Mae Young Classic taking place this past summer, the WWE is finally in a position to be able to execute a tag division. There are some NXT veterans, plus those in the tournament that could be put in the tag division immediately.
