From the WWE Rumor Mill: Update on Dolph Ziggler's WWE contract and possible departure

Dolph Ziggler's status with the WWE is making news again after Dave Meltzer was asked about the same in the latest mailbag. Meltzer revealed some interesting backstage details about the Show Off's contract and possible plans for the future.

Ziggler's topsy-turvy career has seen him go from a breakout World Champion to a glorified jobber in the blink of an eye. The Former World Heavyweight Champion was last involved in a memorable IC title feud with the Miz that had a perfect blend of classic matches and strong storytelling.

He is currently a heel on SmackDown and mimics and mocks the entrances of various WWE legends and superstars. His role is to make any new talent look good in his first feud on the main roster. He faced Shinsuke Nakamura in the Artist's first rivalry and is now embroiled in a feud with Bobby Roode.

Big Dave opened up on Ziggler's contract with the WWE and said that it will most-likely expire next year in October. He mentioned that most superstars prefer signing 3-5 years deals.

Dolph inked a three-year deal when his previous contract came to an end around 2 years back. Meltzer went on to reveal further details on how content Ziggler is currently with his direction.

He claimed that Ziggler will most likely never wrestler for any other promotion after his contract with WWE expires. The reason is that he is finding it comfortable in his current role, which enables him to make some really good money and do this stand-up thing while also playing a decent character on TV.

Ziggler was in a similar predicament two years ago and instead of walking out, stuck with the company despite being on the receiving end of some poor booking decisions.

Ziggler lost his Survivor Series qualifying match to Bobby Roode this past week on SmackDown and post the loss, disclosed that he had to rethink his career options following the devastating 2-out-of-3 falls defeat.

This may all be another storyline arc for him as he as nothing to do at the upcoming cross-brand PPV.

NXT Trainee Leo Gao Released From Contract

Pro Wrestling Sheet has confirmed NXT trainee Leo Gao was released from his contract today and an injury he suffered over the summer may have played a part.

Gao was informed of his release today and tweeted afterward, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never konw [sic] what you’re going to get. So should be keep smile!”

Although he never appeared on TV, Leo was a favorite amongst everyone at the WWE Performance Center after he was hired following a tryout in China. WWE.com even ran an article listing reasons as to why he might become your favorite recruit.

Our sources tell us Leo injured his neck during training back in August and, even though he was recently cleared for limited action, it was a very serious injury.

In case you missed it, Sawyer Fulton was also released today.

Referee Earl Hebner Makes Impact Wrestling Departure

Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned referee Earl Hebner is no longer working for Impact Wrestling.

Sources tell us Hebner left the company this week and it was due to Impact informing the referees that they’d be using local refs while in Canada for Bound For Glory/the tapings that follow.

The past week has seen an exodus of referees from Impact. First Brian Hebner was granted his release, then Brian Stiffler made his exit from the company.

Earl had been with Impact since 2006 and was inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame in 2015.

No word on what his plans for the future are at this point.

Possible Double-Turn Coming To Smackdown Live For Rusev and Tye Dillinger

Dave Meltzer revealed in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE could do a double turn for Rusev and Tye Dillinger on Smackdown soon. Dllinger is currently a face under his current persona while the Bulgarian Brutehas been a heel for his entire WWE career.

The Bulgarian superstar is popular among some fans who have cheered him in spite of his alignment, particularly when this new “Rusev Day” catchphrase. It helps that people are able to see his real personality on Total Divas.

During a recent house show in Raleigh, North Carolina, Rusev had a match with Dillinger, in which they performed a double turn and had the crowd cheering for Rusev at the end. There were still “10” chants, but it was said to be similar to the “What” chants that are used at live events. When Rusev applied the Accolade and made Dillinger tap out, the crowd was on his side.

WWE reportedly doesn’t plan to release Neville

According to Sports Illustrated, Vince McMahon doesn’t plan on releasing Neville any time soon.

Instead he plans on keeping Neville on the payroll drawing him out until his contract expires.

WWE Releases NXT’s Sawyer Fulton

NXT’s Sawyer Fulton posted the following on Twitter, revealing that his time with WWE was done. Fulton was part of the Sanity stable until he got hurt, and was replaced with Killian Dain. Fulton joins Emma, Darren Young and Summer Rae as recent WWE releases.

WWE Title Match To Have A Stipulation?

The Manchester Arena in Manchester, England is advertising AJ Styles vs. WWE Champion Jinder Mahal in a Street Fight for Tuesday's SmackDown, plus six-man action with Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Dolph Ziggler vs. Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode. These are likely dark main events but it will be interesting to see if a Street Fight stipulation is added to the Styles vs. Jinder title match that airs on the taped SmackDown episode.

Another Long Time Impact Wrestling Employee Announces Departure, Impact Left With One Referee?

Brian Stiffler announced on Twitter last night that he was granted his release from Impact Wrestling. Stiffler had been with the company for thirteen years.

Stiffler had worked with the production team in Orlando before becoming a part of the ring crew. He then went on to become a referee.

As noted, referees Brian Hebner and Robert King also announced their departures from the company. As of this writing, that would seemingly leave Impact Wrestling with only one referee, TNA Hall of Famer Earl Hebner.

Alberto El Patron Talks Paige Returning To WWE

As seen in the video above, Alberto El Patron spoke to TMZ Sports while doing publicity for MMA organization Combate Americas. In the interview, El Patron was asked if he would be returning to WWE.

"I left that place and I don't have any interest in going back," El Patron stated. He added that if he were to try his hand at MMA again, it would be for Combate Americas.

El Patron was asked when his fiancee Paige would be returning to WWE. As noted, Paige was cleared to return to action in September and has been training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.

"She's getting ready [to return to WWE]," El Patron said. "She's in Orlando at the moment. She's been there for the last six weeks."

The former WWE Divas Champion has not wrestled since suffering a neck injury in June of 2016. Although she hasn't appeared on WWE television since her injury, she was still drafted to RAW and went on to suffer two Wellness policy suspensions during her hiatus. El Patron noted that she will be returning "pretty soon."

"It's going to happen pretty soon," El Patron said. "I cannot give you any more details because I will get her in trouble. They told her to lay low and not to talk too much about it.

"She's probably days away from going back to WWE and [doing] something in the ring."

El Patron was asked when he would be tying the knot with Paige. He noted that they are both busy right now, but "maybe next year," although they need to discuss it.

Backstage News On WWE NXT Star Getting Major Heat For Recent Tweet, Dash Wilder Deletes Tweet

We noted before how WWE NXT newcomer Lio Rush picked up some heat online after he tweeted on Emma's WWE departure after the company announced her release on Sunday, along with the releases of Summer Rae and Darren Young.

In a now-deleted tweet that referenced Emma's back-to-back losses to new RAW Superstar Asuka just days before, Rush wrote: "I guess these are the things that happen when you're not TRULY ready for @WWEAsuka"

Rush received strong tweets from Bray Wyatt, Jack Gallagher, Peyton Royce, Dash Wilder and others in response. NXT General Manager William Regal wrote a tweet somewhat defending Rush. Dash deleted his tweet but he wrote, "So busy trying to be a comedian, you forget you're a dumbass." Rush later posted an apology to Twitter but the damage had been done.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the heat on Rush was so bad that there was almost immediate talk of the former ROH star being fired from the company. It was also noted that Rush is going to have to put in work to get the heat off of him. It was speculated that Rush would have been released if it weren't for the apology coming soon after the original tweet, based on what sources were saying about the situation.

From the WWE Rumor Mill: Reason for the WWE Championship Match on the next SmackDown Live Episode

Some theories as to why there is a sudden title match for Tuesday.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave potential reasons why the WWE booked AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship on this Tuesday's edition of SmackDown Live. He gave reasons that would fit both a title change and successful defence.

Over the past two weeks, AJ Styles has faced both Singh Brothers, and after this week's match, Styles was brutally attacked by Jinder.

Shane McMahon posted on Twitter Thursday afternoon announcing the championship match as you can see below:

If the championship ends up changing hands, Meltzer believes that Jinder Mahal could be injured and they need to get the title off of him.

With Jinder Mahal being a part of the tour of India coming up in December, they want him to be as healthy as possible, and if it means giving him a month off, that is the best option.

Another scenario Meltzer gave in the event of a title change is that there has not been much hype around the first ever WWE Champion vs. WWE Universal Champion match at Survivor Series, and putting AJ Styles in against Brock Lesnar could spark more interest.

If the result is a win for Jinder Mahal, then the scenario around this is that Vince McMahon may have panicked over the low SmackDown Ratings for this week (they lost half a million viewers from the week before with their lowest rating since June).

If that is the case, then Vince is hoping that booking this title match will see a rebound in those numbers.

The WWE Championship match between Jinder Mahal and AJ Styles is just a few short days away as it will occur this Tuesday from Manchester in the United Kingdom.

Booking of Asuka Causing Major Creative Divide

Following on from our previous story, where we revealed that the Raw and SmackDown writing teams were dead-locked regarding plans for Survivor Series, it has emerged that the booking of Asuka was a key issue in those preliminary discussions.

SmackDown are currently pencilled in to win the women’s match, a match they lost last year, however, the Raw writing team do not want anyone scoring any kind of victory over Asuka- which means they don’t want Asuka on a losing team.

With the plan being for SmackDown to win, this could mean we see Asuka inexplicably left off the Raw team entirely, a move some creative members feel equally damages Asuka, given that it portrays Asuka as being outside of the top women on Raw, ranking her below the likes of Mickie James, Nia Jaxx and Alicia Fox.

If this result is changed, it’ll be solely changed to cater for Asuka and may result in other matches being changed to solely keep her unbeaten.

Major News Regarding REAL Raw vs SmackDown Rivalry

Our Dirty Sheets sources have indicated to us that the Raw be SmackDown rivalry may be far more REAL than people think.

During preliminary discussions, regarding how to the book the matches and results at the Survivor Series PPV, it’s being said that neither writing team were willing to see their brand members weakened and a lot of the discussions ended in deadlock.

Vince McMahon, the man who will ultimately decide on the outcomes, has told the creative teams that Raw needs to prevail 3-2, with Brock Lesnar already pencilled in to defeat Jinder Mahal.

WWE in talks with Goldberg

Our Dirty Sheets sources have exclusively revealed that the WWE made contact with Bill Goldberg last week to discuss Goldberg appearing on RAW 25 and a potential Hall of Fame induction in New Orleans next year.

Goldberg was set to headline last year’s Hall of Fame, however, plans were changed when the WWE took Brock Leanar’s suggestion that Lesnar and Goldberg should work a long-term program. This booking change was aided by the incredible reactions Goldberg was receiving, coupled by his segments drawing strong ratings.

Update Regarding WWE’s Plans for Kane

As we previously reported, the original plan for Kane’s return was to feud with Roman Reigns for defeating The Undertaker at WrestleMania. However, due to Roman Reigns’ medical issues, those plans have been changed to Kane feuding with Braun Strowman.

Kane is currently pencilled in to come up short in his feud with Braun Strowman and could possibly move on to Reigns after. Unlike Strowman, Kane will not be a part of Raw’s Survivor Series team. According to our sources, the WWE are likely to film an angle where Strowman gets revenge on Kane for TLC, temporarily taking Kane off TV for a week. The pair will then resume their feud after the Survivor Series PPV.

Rusev Going To Survivor Series?

As noted, SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon took to Twitter today and announced AJ Styles vs. WWE Champion Jinder Mahal with the title on the line for Tuesday's taped SmackDown in Manchester, England.
