BULLET CLUB (CODY, HANGMAN PAGE, & KAZARIAN) vs. THE BRISCOES & JAY LETHAL
It’s no surprise that Bullet Club has drawn the ire of top stars within Ring of Honor. Bullet Club continues to rack up championships, victories, and zeroes in their checks as they dominate competition in both ROH and New Japan Pro-Wrestling. What is often surprising is who is teaming together to try to stop them.
Jay Lethal and Jay Briscoe had two of the most intense ROH World Championship bouts of all-time and while one respects the other, it is clear that the two still struggle to like one another. The two former World Champions had yet another classic battle in the Decade of Excellence Tournament, putting even more pressure on this tense relationship. And there is no love lost between Lethal and Mark Briscoe, either, who have battled for then-champion Lethal’s ROH World Television and World Championships.
But these were the three men who stood together to put themselves above individual accolades and achievements to take on Bullet Club the night Jay Lethal’s head was shaved. And they will team together at Manhattan Mayhem to combat three Bullet Club stars who are on a major roll in ROH and NJPW.
“The American Nightmare” Cody has clearly gotten in the head of Jay Lethal. Cody defeated Lethal at Final Battle following a low blow and Cross Rhodes in his ROH debut. Since then, Cody has gone undefeated in singles competition while goading Lethal into a Texas Bullrope Match at the biggest Supercard of Honor of all time!
And the mind of Jay Lethal has space reserved for Hangman Page, as well. Page defeated Lethal with Bullet Club assistance in Dallas in what many have said is the biggest win of his career. In Columbus, Lethal picked up a pin on Page in a tag team bout. And while Lethal pinned Page on Night 1 of Honor Rising, Page rebounded the next night and pinned Lethal in a six man tag bout. Page has demonstrated he’s a big match player, having defeated Jay Briscoe in an Anything Goes match at Death Before Dishonor.
But the wild card of the match may be Frankie Kazarian. After turning his back on the man that was the best man at his wedding, a man he teamed with for six years, and has been best friends with for 18, Kazarian has shown he is ride or die with Bullet Club. At The Experience, Kaz helped the Young Bucks retain the ROH World Tag Team Championships during a 10-plus second visual pinfall by War Machine. Not afraid to get his hands dirty, Kazarian has an extensive record of competitive bouts with and against Lethal and the Briscoes and may be the most well-equipped to execute a game plan at Manhattan Mayhem that leads Bullet Club to victory.
