Update On The MYC Finale And WWE 205 Live

This week's WWE 205 Live episode is still scheduled to run for one hour on the WWE Network at 10:30pm EST, right after the finals of The Mae Young Classic end. As noted, Rich Swann vs. TJP will take place on this week's 205 Live.

The Mae Young Classic episodes will begin airing at 1pm EST on Tuesday afternoon with the "Bracketology" hosted by Corey Graves and WWE Hall of Famer Lita. There will then be a Red Carpet Special at 6pm EST, hosted by Cathy Kelley. That event will air exclusively on Facebook. Ronda Rousey, Olympic gold medalist Hope Solo, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, The Bella Twins, Bayley, Charlotte Flair, cast members of Netflix series "GLOW" and others are expected to appear on the red carpet, live from Las Vegas. The tournament finale with Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler will then air at 10pm EST exclusively on the WWE Network once SmackDown goes off the air. The finale is scheduled to feature just one match - Sane vs. Baszler.

As a reminder, there will be a tournament recap special hosted by Charly Caruso that airs on the WWE Network after tonight's RAW goes off the air. The thirty-minute show will feature Tessa Blanchard, Jazzy Gabert and Kay Lee Ray vs. Santana Garrett, Sarah Logan and Marti Belle, which was taped at Full Sail University during the tournament tapings.

Charly Caruso is in the Control Center for the Mae Young Classic.

We take a look at how Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler made it to the finals.

We go to a special match and your announcers are Tom Phillips, Nigel McGuinness, and Beth Phoenix

Match Number One: Santana Garrett, Marti Belle, and Sarah Logan versus Tessa Blanchard, Kay Lee Ray, and Jazzy Gabert

Logan and Blanchard start things off. They lock up and Blanchard with a clean break. Logan with an arm drag. Logan with a hip toss and cartwheel followed by a knee to the head. Santana tags in and she gets a near fall with a rollup. Santana with a take down and a near fall. Garrett with a double leg take down for a near fall. Blanchard with a punch and Ray tags in. They hit a double shoulder tackle. Logan and Belle come in and the referee is distracted but Santana with a double springboard arm drag. Santana with a side Russian leg sweep on Ray for a near fall.

Belle tags in and she connects with forearms. Ray blocks an elbow but Belle with a head scissors. Belle with a running forearm and she kicks Ray in the corner. Marti runs into an uppercut. Belle with a discus forearm and she gets a near fall. Belle with a waist lock and Ray with a standing switch and forearm to the back of the neck.

Gabert tags in and she hits a series of back fists and Belle goes down. Gabert gets Belle up in a torture rack. Gabert sends Belle face first into the turnbuckles and Blanchard tags in. Tessa chokes Belle in the ropes and then hits a drop kick to the back followed by an elbow to the back. Blanchard with a series of short arm clotheslines. Belle blocks a suplex attempt and hits a jaw breaker.

Gabert and Santana tag in and Santana with Eat Defeat but Gabert stays on her feet. Santana with a handspring elbow into the corner. Santana with a series of kicks and a bridging chin lock but Ray with a kick. Ray with another kick but Logan with a back drop to Ray. Blanchard with a hammer lock DDT to Logan. Belle with a stroke to Blanchard. Gabert with a Dominator for the three count.

Winners: Jazzy Gabert, Tessa Blanchard, and Kay Lee Ray

After the match, Triple H comes out.

He asks everyone if they are having a good time. The crowd chants for them to sign some of the women and he says it cost him too much money in the CWC. Hunter says that we watch and do this because of the love for what happens in the ring. The guys thought they would sacrifice everything for the chance to ride that rainbow. There was a huge pot of gold for the guys. The women saw what happened in the ring to have a chance to ride that rainbow, but there was no gold . . . until now.

You are that pot of gold. This is that pot of gold. It starts here for that sacrifice to live that dream. Hunter thanks everyone for making that a reality.

- The finale of The Mae Young Classic opens with a video package on Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane.

- We're live from Las Vegas with Renee Young. She hypes the show leads us to video from the Red Carpet special earlier this evening.

- We see Dana Warrior, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix and WWE Hall of Famer Alundra Blayze at ringside. Mauro Ranallo is also shown. Renee sends us to WWE Hall of Famers Jim Ross and Lita at ringside for commentary. We see Kairi Sane walking backstage. Shayna Baszler is backstage with Ronda Rousey and Jessamyn Duke. JR leads us to a video package on the finalists.

- We see The Rock's mother and daughter at ringside. We also see some of The Mae Young Classic competitors in the crowd.

Finals of The Mae Young Classic: Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler

We go to the ring and out first comes Shayna Baszler. She stops and looks at the trophy on the stage. Kairi Sane is out next. We get a "Tale of the Tape" as Sane makes her entrance. JR sends it to Lilian Garcia for formal ring introductions.

They lock up and get a feel for each other to start. Fans do dueling chants for both wrestlers as they're slow to start. Baszler takes Sane down first and works her around the mat. Baszler with an early submission attempt. Sane with two pin attempts as they trade holds on the mat. They break and get back to their feet. Baszler takes Sane down and kicks her in the back but Sane comes right back. Baszler ends up connecting with a big kick to the face to send Sane out to the floor. The referee counts but Baszler stops Sane from re-entering the ring. Baszler brings it back in for a 2 count.

Baszler works on the arm and elbow of Sane now. Sane blocks a gutwrench slam and rolls Baszler up for 2. Shayna avoids a move and Sane goes down. Baszler goes back to work on the arm now. More back and forth between the two. Baszler slams Sane for a 2 count. Baszler with another hold until the referee forces her to break. Sane comes back with chops and unloads, sending Shayna against the ropes. Sane screams in Shayna's face and runs the ropes but Baszler drops her with a running knee to the face.

They run the ropes again but Sane spears Shayna this time. Sane with a 2 count. Sane keeps control with a low dropkick and more focus on the ribs. Sane with a 2 count. Sane keeps Baszler grounded with a body scissors now.

Baszler fights out and beats on Sane as Rousey looks on from the crowd. Sane puts Shayna down in the corner and marches before charging. Shayna moves and Sane hits the turnbuckles face first. Sane comes back with kicks and drops Shayna with an axe kick. Sane goes to the top for the Insane Elbow but Shayna catches her on the way down with a rear-naked choke. Sane works on the ribs and breaks the hold. They get up and Sane drops Baszler with a back fist. Sane goes to the top for the big elbow again but Baszler cuts her off.

Baszler climbs up and rocks Sane. Baszler goes for a superplex but Sane fights her off. They trade shots up top. Baszler applies a double wristlock from the top but it's broken. Sane turns Baszler upside down in the corner and nails a big stomp. Sane with a close 2 count. Sane charges and nails Baszler with a running forearm in the corner. Sane goes to the top and hits the Insane Elbow to win the inaugural Mae Young Classic.

Winner of The Mae Young Classic: Kairi Sane

- After the match, Lilian announces Sane as the winner. Baszler recovers down in the corner. Sane approaches and they hug as the crowd cheers them. Shayna raises Sane's arm in the middle of the ring and thanks her. Shayna leaves the ring as Sane's celebration continues. We go to replays. We come back to Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Sara Amato in the ring with Sane and Baszler. Sane is presented with roses and the trophy. Triple H raises Sane's arm as Baszler leaves the ring. We go to another replay of the finish. Sane hits the corner to pose with the roses as the crowd cheers her on. JR thanks everyone for watching and that's it for the tournament.

Kairi Sane Set For Big Match At WWE NXT 'Takeover: Houston', Triple H On Sane And Shayna Baszler

Triple H spoke with ESPN after The Mae Young Classic and announced that tournament winner Kairi Sane will compete for the vacant WWE NXT Women's Title at the "Takeover: Houston" event on November 18th at the Toyota Center. He said:

"[I'm] very excited that she's the first champion, and now the question is 'What's next for her?' I can tell you what's next for her. On Nov. 18 at the Toyota Center at the next NXT TakeOver, Kairi will be fighting to determine a new NXT women's champion."

No word yet on who Sane will compete against but we should know more after Thursday's NXT TV tapings. As noted, the title was recently vacated by the undefeated Asuka as she's set to debut with the RAW brand soon.

Triple H also commented on tournament finalists Sane and Shayna Baszler, and their match tonight:

"[Kairi Sane]'s that little dog in the fight that just won't go down. She leaves it all out there. You can feel her passion when she's in the ring.

"Shayna's a tough competitor. Some of the shots she hit her with... there was a kick to the side of her head where I thought, 'I'm glad that isn't me.' That's what people feel from her -- that never-say-die attitude and that fighting spirit."

Läuft also auf ein Multi-Woman Match um den vakanten NXT Championship Titel bei NXT TakeOver: Houston im November hinaus.

Neben Kairi Sane sehe ich im besagten Match noch die üblichen Damen Ember Moon, Nikki Cross und Ruby Riot. Vielleicht packt man noch Billie Kay und Peyton Royce ins Match und macht ein Ladder Match daraus. Das würde mir sehr gefallen.

Kairi Sane vs. Toni Storm was the originally planned MYC final; decision for Kairi to beat Baszler was made earlier this week

Kairi Sane over Toni Storm was the originally penciled in finish before the tournament started, which was switched to a semifinal when the plans were made to go all out with Sane and Baszler with the Horsewomen angle. One person close to the situation said in the end, the idea was done early in the week to make the final night about Sane and save the Horsewomen angle for later with the decision to go with Sane being made most likely on Monday.

WWE possibly planning another Mae Young Classic next summer

The Mae Young Classic is in the rear view mirror and now we can focus on next year’s Mae Young Classic. Yes, you heard me right. WWE is going to apparently keep doing these tournaments due to the huge success of the inaugural year’s end result.

Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live that Kairi Sane might not be winning the NXT Women’s Championship or else they would have made the final match for the title. He also said there’s word WWE is going to plan a multi-woman match for the vacant title as well.

Some people said they were disappointed Shayna Baszler’s loss didn’t result in some kind of Horsewomen standoff, but Alvarez cleared things up a little while addressing some other key bits of information of what could happen next. He also gave a nice little detail about possible plans to keep the Mae Young Classic going.

“Apparently the story is they’re going to do something with the Horsewomen, I don’t know when it’s gonna be. But I guess last week they decided we could shoot an angle anytime and we’ve done this entire thing — the finale thirty minutes we’re just gonna make the entire finale about Kairi and so they did and now maybe they’ll shoot an angle at No Mercy because Ronda lives in LA and the show is in LA so it’s possible that they’re going to do it there. May do something in NXT, who knows?”

“There is an NXT taping tomorrow where Kairi is going to debut and probably another girl from the Mae Young Classic is gonna debut. And the latest I’ve heard and please don’t write this as a certainty because it’s not but next summer. I know everyone’s been talking about a tag team deal but they may do another Mae Young Classic next summer. That seems to be the working idea right now.”

That is a lot of news to take in at once. But the plans for Kairi Sane to win the NXT Championship might take some time, Shayna Baszler wasn’t scheduled to win the Mae Young Classic either. But she might get a shot next year if plans stay the same.

The future of women's wrestling has never looked better!

The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter gave an update on all 32 competitors and their status in signing with WWE.

The annual Mae Young Classic came to a conclusion on Tuesday night after SmackDown Live in a brilliant final that saw The Pirate Princess Kairi Sane topple over former MMA fighter Shayna Baszler.

Her hand was then raised and she was endorsed by none other than Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. She was then inserted into the NXT Women's Championship match at NXT Takeover: Houston in a match that will crown the new NXT Women's Champion

The following list of competitors are those that have been signed by WWE already prior to the tournament:

Vanessa Borne, Zeda, Sarah Logan, Xia Li, Rhea Ripley, Abbey Laith, Kavita Devi, Dakota Kai, Bianca Belair, Sage Beckett, Lacey Evans, Taynara Conti and Reina Gonzalez.

Piper Niven, Mercedes Martinez and Candice LeRae seem to have a good chance of getting offers as they were seen in the finals of the Mae Young Classic. For Piper Niven especially, she was flown in all the way from Japan, so that must say something.

The tournament runner-up Shayna Baszler hasn't been officially signed to a contract, but she isn't advertised for any future independent dates, so that could be an indication of her signing.

Toni Storm hasn't been signed either, but she's only 21 and has a long way to go. It's very likely that she was given an offer to join. Tessa Blanchard, someone who has the heritage, the look and the talent has reportedly not been offered a contract, but her coming to WWE seems like an inevitability. She is only 22 years old and has no shortage of work on the independent scene. Whenever she comes, she looks like one who can be a huge name in the future.

With the signing and inevitable future signings of the women of the Mae Young Classic, it seems like NXT is going to back to its glory days of the women's division. From the look of things, it could end up surpassing that!
