In der aktuellen SmackDown! LIVE-Episode am Dienstag, den 18. April 2017 in Louisville, Kentucky wurde bereits der Main Event für den SmackDown! LIVE Pay-Per-View „WWE Backlash 2017“ am Sonntag, den 21. Mai 2017 in Chicago, Illinois offiziell bestätigt. So wird WWE Champion Randy Orton seinen WWE Championship Titel gegen „The Maharajah“ Jinder Mahal verteidigen müssen, welcher in der besagten SmackDown! LIVE-Episode eine Six-Pack Challenge gegen Dolph Ziggler, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, Mojo Rawley und Sami Zayn gewonnen hat, bei der er mit Hilfe von The Singh Brothers, besser bekannt als The Bollywood Boyz.(Harv & Gurv Sihra), Sami Zayn via Cobra Clutch Slam pinnen konnte, nachdem die beiden zuvor einen Helluva Kick von Sami Zayn gegen Jinder Mahal verhindern konnten.

Der Push von Jinder Mahal nach seinem Wechsel von RAW zu SmackDown! LIVE im Rahmen des „Superstar Shake-Up“ kommt wenig überraschend, da noch vor wenigen Tagen in der aktuellen „WWE Rumor Mill“ darüber berichtet worden ist, dass Vince McMahon jüngsten Gerüchten zufolge sehr begeistert von Jinder Mahal und dessen „neuen“ Körperbau sein soll und dass deshalb ohnehin für die nächste Zeit auch ein Push von Jinder Mahal als Midcard-Heel bei SmackDown! LIVE geplant war. Offenbar scheint die WWE für den Push von Jinder Mahal ein neues Heel-Stable, bestehend aus „The Maharajah“ Jinder Mahal und The Singh Brothers aka The Bollywood Boyz (Harv & Gurv Sihra), zu formen.

In a stunning turn of events, one of SmackDown LIVE’s newest threats, Jinder Mahal, earned the right to challenge WWE Champion Randy Orton at WWE Backlash.

Yes, one week after joining the blue brand as part of the Superstar Shake-up, Mahal overcame Dolph Ziggler, Sami Zayn, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Mojo Rawley in an explosive WWE Championship No. 1 Contender’s Six-Pack Challenge – thanks in part to some surprising help from The Singh Brothers, also known as The Bollywood Boyz.

Now, as he prepares for his first title match in WWE, The Maharajah, who poses a very real threat to WWE’s Apex Predator, is no doubt hungry to prove his glory.

But will Orton be whole by the time the May 21 pay-per-view rolls around? There is no denying that Orton’s serpentine intensity has reached a new level since he captured his 13th World Title at WrestleMania, but The Viper must contend with Bray Wyatt in a House of Horrors showdown before he can square off with Mahal.
